- A few thoughts off the top of my head....

- Levels - are you getting reduced signal level or perhaps clipping into
- your modems?

- Impedance match - are your modems 600 ohm or BT3 (or the US equiv) and
- is this the same as the channel bank?

- Modem line quality indicators - some modems have undocumented commands
- that you can use to measure quality and level information while you
- are connected. This could be useful.

- Stupid things like interference into the cables, quality of the
- telephony power supply running the channel bank etc
